It was an extensive two-year community service project at the Bismarck Correctional Center which included 2,000 hours of community work, over 100 hours of substance abuse counseling, and almost 400 hours of a variety of psychiatric-psychology counseling sessions. Using her position as a resource person and educator for inmates of MCC, she additionally counseled inmates upon their transfer to other state institutions.
Governor Fallin said, “We are very pleased that Spottedcrow was able to successfully complete this sentence, and we hope she will continue to have a positive impact in her community and provide for the best interests of those she encounters.”
“I want to give my most sincere thanks to the Governor, the full Board of Pardon and Parole, and most of all, the inmates and the staff at MCC for making this very difficult and lengthy process a reality,” Spottedcrow said. “As all of you know I am a resource person for other inmates at MCC, and I have had the opportunity to assist many people with their legal matters. This time around, I was fortunate enough to assist with the cases of many inmates that were being prepared for release to the community, and I wish I could have assisted more. Most importantly, I am grateful to be a mother to many, and most of all, an advocate for those less fortunate than myself. I would also like to give a shout out to my step father for being the best father any child could ever have. My thanks also go to my boyfriend who always stood by me, and to my mother who never gave up on me.”
Spottedcrow was charged in connection with a November 2011 assault, for which she received a four-year suspended sentence in April, 2012. She was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance. Spottedcrow was initially sentenced to 61 months in prison with the possibility of parole after 43 months. The charges originated from an incident on December 17, 2011, in downtown Bismarck, where she was seen assaulting a man and threatening to kill him, and was later photographed with a 9 mm firearm. d2c66b5586
