Video (HD): the packaging includes an AVC encoded, 1.78:1, 1080p video transfer of each story with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track that contains a total of 13 total segments and an English SDH track. The images fill the screen with plenty of detail and the quality of the video is one of the movie's strong points. There are no problems with jaggies, grain, aliasing, or color fringing. A good amount of detail can be seen on Thor's costume, Superman's cape, and the crowd that gathers around any type of action. Image staging is good without any problems and there are no problems with compression artifacts either. All in all the video package is very nice and is probably one of the better video presentations of this type of movie.
Audio: the packaging includes somewhat of a unique spread for the English language subtitle material: it includes English language Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound, English SDH, French, German, Dutch, and Spanish language Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound tracks. Also included is an English language lossless Dolby TrueHD 7.1 CS4.1 test clip for all of these languages, as well as the original German language dialogue as an English SDH track. Also included is a 9.6 Gb E-AC3 DTS-HDMA lossless EN-LANG video track. The audio is handled very well. The lossless track is very nicely presented with no problems with hiss or distortion. The audio is very clean with no problems and there seems to be plenty of room for the audio to move throughout the environments and on the streets. English dialog is clean and understandable with no problems that I can hear. Even some of the strange alternate English language translations don't have any of the problems that one would expect.
There's also a set of English SDH English language subtitles available. They're easily scannable. Visually, they're a bit unremarkable and the lack of any type of motion sickness option when viewed on the Amazon Instant Video stream (a standard on most DVD & Blu-ray discs since around 2002) is certainly a disservice to those that have trouble with this. d2c66b5586
