using USB devices in Vista may require a service restart. To reliably resolve USB driver problems causing the USB operating system service to stop or the Windows XP system to display "unknown device" errors, restart the computer. To restart the computer, press and hold the power button until the Computer Restart screen appears. Select Shut Down, and then Restart. This will restart both the computer and the USB operating system service. Remove and reattach the device if additional error messages appear. Listing of Device Drivers. To add or remove device drivers, open Device Manager from the Windows Control Panel. In the left pane of Device Manager, click Device, and then double-click the appropriate device. Right-click the device and select Update Driver Software. Select Browse My Computer, and then select the folder where you installed the device driver software. The Device Manager lists all installed drivers on your computer. If your computer has a Device Manager, this tool is in it. This tool allows you to view the hardware devices on your computer and the drivers that are currently installed.
