As I said before, once I am done with the voice and guitar tracks, I get them as audio and then I make sure that all the notes are in the same scale. I do this manually, with a click every time. Typically I use a 1, 2, or 3 note scale for each voice, and then I make sure that the notes in each scale are in the same freq range.
The last few years I have been using a software called JazzB which is the kind of plugin that I want to sell, as it is awesome. You basically take audio, record it, then take the FFT and then use the periodogram to model the pitch. It is completely automatic, it can do a lot but it also makes a lot of mistakes. I started using it to do very basic instrument detrending, but it is pretty amazing for doing crude pitch shifting. For example, if you give it a 2 minute song with a vocal and a bass guitar, it will automatically transpose the vocal and bass to any scale, regardless of key. It also has a synth engine that will let you interact with it in ways that I cannot conceive. For example, if you click on a note in the FFT, you can click on more than one note and it will crossfade between them. It can split and merge notes without any issues and it is incredibly fast. It is about 1 GB in size, and it is free software.
But once variaudio and maybe melodicne were out, I was left with no option but to finally bite the bullet and spend hours in the studio cranking out my track only to realize that all of my notes are higher than they should be.
I bought the Variaudio, the controller and of course the software. I have been using it since the day I got it. In the beginning I was getting great results, mixing with the software, with the controller and eventually with my keyboard with the controller. Then I started hearing complaints from others about how difficult it was to use.
